Alvin G. Diemer Obituary (1945 - 2016)

Alvin G. Diemer 70 of Saunemin, IL died on January 16, 2016, at 7:10 pm in rural Saunemin. His service will be on Thursday January 21, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. from St. John's Lutheran Church in Cullom with the Pastor Mauricio Vieira officiating with burial to follow in Sunny Slope Cemetery in Saunemin. Visitation will be on Wednesday January 20, 2016 from 4:00-7:00 pm from St. John's Lutheran Church in Cullom. Duffy-Baier-Snedecor Funeral Home, Pontiac, is in charge of arrangements. Alvin was born on March 28, 1945 Fairbury, IL to George and Fannie ( Johnson ) Diemer , Fannie survives in Pontiac. He married Sonny Allen on September 12, 1965 celebrating their 50th anniversary this year with a family dinner and card shower. She survives. Surviving are his sons: Jeffrey A. Diemer of Morton, Joseph G. Diemer of Bloomington, James J. ( Karen ) Diemer of Jefferson City, MO; one brother John Diemer of Pontiac, one brother-in-law Milton Johnson of Odell, IL; grandchildren Bradley (Jesica), Tristen, Jacob, Sara, Lauren and Tyler Diemer, Lola Carman; great-grandchildren: Brody, Kayden and Kaleb. He was preceded in death by his father and one sister Marie June Diemer. Alvin attended Union Grade School and was a 1964 Saunemin High School graduate. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from SIU in 1967. He had worked for Allis Chalmers in Springfield from 1967 to 1973 then moved to Pontiac to work for Interlake Steel for over 30 years and worked on the family farm with his dad, brother and nephew Dale. He is a lifetime member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Cullom. Alvin was a member of Saunemin Grade and High School Board President and served on the Pontiac Township High School Board, Pheasants Forever and Director of Threshermen's Reunion. Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, Saunemin Fire Department, OSF Hospice or a charity of the donor's choice. Alvin loved to hunt and fish. He took his father, sons and grandsons to Canada for many years. He passed this love onto his sons and grandsons. He cherished the time he was able to spend with his family especially his grandchildren.
