Dewey D. Winstead Obituary (1942 - 2015)

Dewey D. Winstead, of Vallonia, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at the age of 73 following a brief illness. He was born October 3, 1942, in Pontiac, a son of the late Juanita (Barnes) and Harley Winstead. A gathering for family and friends will be from held Monday, November 30, 2015 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Duffy-Baier-Snedecor Funeral Home in Pontiac. A private burial will take place at a later date. Duffy-Baier-Snedecor Funeral Home, Pontiac, is in charge of arrangements. After graduating from Pontiac Township High School, he married Ima Jean (Snow) Winstead. He worked many years in retail management with Murphy's, Hill's and Walmart. Throughout his retail career the couple made 20 moves in 30 years throughout the Midwest. Later he was employed as a long-haul truck driver, visiting 48 of the 50 states. He spent nearly a decade in the Army National Guard, and was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons, the Eagles Lodge, Rotary Club and Lions Club. After retirement he restored an antique tractor, and enjoyed hunting and shooting on his property in Southern Indiana. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Dewey Winstead, Jr. of Vallonia, Indiana; a daughter, Amy (Scott) Merritt of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina; two grandchildren, Katie (Kurt) Clontz and Tyler Mastin, both of New Castle, Indiana; four great-grandchildren, Xavier, Lilly and Clarissa Clontz and Amya Mastin; two brothers, Harvey Winstead of Burlington, Iowa and Keith "Doug" Winstead of St. Louis, Missouri; and two sisters, Daisy Cunningham and Tallulah Scott of Pontiac, Illinois. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Linda Bammann and Nancy Baker; and a half sister, Ruth Briddick. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to The Salvation Army.
