Earl D. Childers Obituary (1924 - 2015)

Earl D. Childers, 91, of Pontiac, passed away Monday, December 7, 2015 at 2:32 p.m. at his home in Pontiac. His service will be held Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Duffy-Baier-Snedecor Funeral Home in Pontiac with Pastor Dan Woodward officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Pontiac. Visitation will be Friday, December 11, 2015 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Duffy-Baier-Snedecor Funeral Home, Pontiac, is in charge of arrangements. Earl was born February 18, 1924 in Alvin, IL, son of Everett and Bertha (Shulz) Childers. He married Barbara J. Ruther who passed away in 1986 then married Bernice Crandell on June 6, 1991. She survives in Pontiac. Also surviving are his daughter, Theresa Ann Ellis and her ex-husband, Steve Ellis, both of Pontiac, IL; step-daughters, Shelley Hodgson of Pontiac, IL, Sherry (Steve) Clinard of Mattoon, IL, Cindy Hay of Mattoon, IL, and Jackie Barlow of Pontiac, IL; daughter-in-law, Juanita Childers of Barto, FL; step-sons, Scott Maynard and Mark Maynard, both of Birch Tree, MO; grandchildren, Zackery (Sophia Theodossiou) Ellis of Moscow, ID, Jeffery Ellis of Bloomington, IL, Nick Ellis of Pontiac, IL, Mark Childers of Barto, FL, Mike Todd of San Francisco, CA, Jeffery Maynard of Richmond, VA, Kayla Walker of London, KY, and John, Jeremy, Dustin, Ashley, and Holli; step-grandchildren, Chance (Kim) Hodgson, Scott (Raven) Hodgson, Cecil (Tasha) Runyon, and Dusty Hay; great grandchildren, Pedro Childers, Sharon Childers, and Amy Sue Childers; and step great grandchildren, Allison Hodgson, Grace Hodgson, Zyreck Runyon, Drake Runyon, Wesley Hodgson, and Alana Hodgson. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Barbara; one son, Don Childers; one step-son, Jeffery Hay; two sisters, Irene Childers in infancy and Norma Fosdick; one grandchild, Brenda Sue Childers; and one step great grandchild, Madison Hodgson. Earl owned and operated Childers Auto Salvage and was a mechanic and auto body technician. He served in the U. S. Army. He had been a member of First Lutheran Church in Pontiac and was a past member of the Moose Lodge in Pontiac. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Autism Speaks.
