Esther Pate Obituary (1921 - 2014)

Esther Pate, 93, of McDowell, passed away Friday, February 28, 2014 at 11:50 p.m. at her home in McDowell surrounded by family. At Esther's request, there will be no services; however, the family welcomes your friendship. Cremation rites will be accorded and a private burial will be at a later date. Esther was born on January 8, 1921 in Fairbury, IL, daught of Charles C. and Mirtie (Blankenship) Runyon. She married Carl E. Pate on July 20, 1939 in Kentland, IN. He passed away on July 12, 2007 after almost 68 years of marriage. She is survived by her daughters, Patricia (Robert) Tinges and Connie (Ole) Homme, both of Pontiac, IL; her grandchildren, Paula Tinges, Rita White, and Carl Homme, all of Pontiac, IL and Christopher (Kristina) Homme of Broken Arrow, OK; and her great grandchildren, Nick, Miryssa, Kendra, and Katelyn. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl; three brothers, Fred, Edgar and Edwin Runyon; and four sisters, Irene Mallory, Nellie Harris, Vivian Williams, and Marie Green. Esther was a member of the McDowell United Methodist Church. She devoted her life to her family and helping others in any way she could. She touched many lives in her 93 years and was active until the last month. She loved to crochet, make quilts, and mow her yard. Memorials may be made OSF Eastern Region Hospice of Normal, IL.
