Gary L. Ide Obituary (1943 - 2014)

PONTIAC -- Gary L. Ide, 71, Pontiac, formerly of Elkhart, Ind., died Sunday (Feb. 9, 2014) at Asta Care Center of Pontiac. His memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Asta Care Chapel, and following the service there will be time to spend with the family at Asta Care Center, 300 W. Lowell Ave., Pontiac. Duffy-Baier-Snedecor Funeral Home, Pontiac, is in charge of arrangements. He was born Jan. 28, 1943, in Pontiac, the son of Arnold and Ester Alltop Ide. Esther survives in Pontiac. He is also survived by ex-wives, Rena Ide, Elkhart, Ind., and Vicky Hofflander, Edwardsburg, Mich.; son, Brandon (Keri) Ide, Elkhart, Ind.; daughter, Michelle Ide, Noblesville, Ind.; grandchild, Austyn Ide, Elkhart, Ind., currently attending Purdue University; aunt, Velma Matter, Minonk; and uncle, Gale Alltop, Pontiac. He was preceded in death by his father, Arnold Ide. He attended Graymont Grade School, and is a graduate of Cornell High School in 1961 and Elkhart Institute of Technology in 1963. Gary worked in Elkhart, Ind., for Excel Corp. for 20 years, also Manchester Tank, and as a truck driver before moving back to Pontiac where he farmed with his cousins. He was a member of Cornell Baptist Church of Cornell. Memorials may be made to the family. Gary took excellent care of his mother and uncle since 1992 until his illness overcame him. He was a dedicated father and an avid Chicago Bears fan.
