Gilbert F. Bellot Obituary (1928 - 2012)

ODELL -- Gilbert F. Bellot, 83, Odell, went to be with his heavenly father at 9:35 p.m. Thursday (May 31, 2012) at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, Peoria. His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Catholic Church, Odell. Monsignor Thomas Mack will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul Catholic Cemetery, Odell. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, with the rosary to be recited at 3:30 p.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church, Odell. Duffy-Baier-Snedecor Funeral Home, Pontiac, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Catholic Grade School or Odell Fire Protection District. He was born Oct. 22, 1928, in Pontiac to his parents, Joseph and Minnie Brown Bellot. After losing his mother when he was 5 years old, Bernice Ralph Bellot raised him. He married Margery Haughtigan on Aug. 6, 1949, at St. Bernard's Church, Sunbury. She survives in Odell. Also surviving are sons, Dan (Deb) Bellot, Resaca, Ga., and Jim Bellot, Odell; daughters, Molly Bellot, Pontiac, and Janet (Matt) Theis, Tulsa, Okla.; brother, Ralph Bellot, Metamora; sisters, Sharon (Clarence) Stadel and Judy (Ray) Masching, Odell; and grandchildren, Cory Bellot, Sarah Theis, Jacob Theis, Joe Bellot and Ross Bellot, whom he loved very much. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, LaVonne Hoerner and Rosemary Schulz; and his brother, Gene Bellot. Gib had farmed in the Odell area until retirement. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1955. Gib was a part of a 14-man team who erected the first Ballistic Meteorological Weather Station in Norfork County, England. Gib continued to stay in contact and was lifelong friends with these men. Gib was a past member of St. Paul Catholic Church of Odell, where he was a lecturer and an extraordinary minister. He was honored to receive the Bishop Pere Marquette medal on Nov. 22, 2003. He was a member of the Third and Fourth degree Knights of Columbus and was a trustee of Odell Fire Protection District and was Odell Township assessor for 40 years. He was a member of the Odell American Legion and was formerly on the school board of St. Paul and Odell public schools. He was a member of the VFW. He graduated of St. Paul High School class of 1946.
