Harriet Bradford Fischler "Sue" Shaughnessy , 96 of Pontiac, IL passed away on July 17, 2010 6:18 pm at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center of Bloomington, IL. Her service will be Sunday July 25, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Grace Episcopal Church, 900 Manlove Street Pontiac, IL with Father Walter L. Bryan. Burial will be in Southside Cemetery at a later date. She was born on 6/24/14 in Hammond, IN. to Mr. & Mrs. Karl Vincent and Harriet (Bradford) Fischler. She married Donald Joseph Shaughnessy 9/2/36 St. Luke's Cathedral, Evanston, IL he died 5/5/1970. Survivors include one son Michael Joseph (Brenda) Shaughnessy, Pontiac, IL,: three daughters Suzanne Shaughnessy (J. Michael-deceased) Fitzsimmons, Wheaton, IL,; DeeJay Shaughnessy (Richard) Phelps, Mercer Island, WA,; Patricia Shaughnessy (Ronald) Adams, Greer, SC,; nieces and nephews, Mary McMeekin (Ray) Johnson, Inman, SC,; and Dr. Robert (Bebe) McMeekin, Bethesda, MD. Her grandchildren, Joanne (Brian) Abele, Patrick (Sandra) Adams, Joseph Fitzsimmons, Justin (Nydia) Fitzsimmons, Jennifer Phelps, Katherine (Jason) Johnson, Jonathan Adams, Michael Phelps, Meghan Meadows, Mark Phelps, Ryan, Erin and Kevin Shaughnessy. Great-Grandchildren Rose Turlington, Elizabeth Adams, Austin Johnson, Wesley David Elliott, Kelly, Mackenzie and Margaret Adams, Melia, Charlotte and Aiden Meadows, Aubrienne Bradford Abele, B.B.Harriet V Fitzsimmons, Great-Great Grandchildren, Austin and Sarah Turlington. She was preceded by her Parents; Karl Vincent and Harriet Bradford Fischler, Husband; Donald, Daughter; Nancy Jane Shaughnessy, Sister; Gretchen McMeekin Harriet was a Life Long Episcopalian She also belonged to the American Legion Women's Auxiliary, Livingston County Historical Society, Eagle Scout awarded by Girl Scouts of America, Troop Leader sponsored by the local district of Illinois State Police, Red Cross volunteer driving blood donors to Chicago blood banks during WWII She had been Apprentice Pharmacist. She began her pharmacy vocation at her grandfather's store, Ralph F. Bradford Rexall Drug Store, that started in 1885. She and her husband, Donald founded and operated the D&S Rexall Drug Store until 1973, serving the community of Pontiac for four decades. Together, Sue and Don operated the D & S News Agency, Beltone Hearing Aid Service, and Party Movie Rentals as well. She was a graduate of Pontiac Township High School, class of 1932 and attended Milwaukee Downer College, Milwaukee, WI In lieu of flowers family suggests memorials be made to Livingston County Boys and Girls Club, Pontiac, Illinois 1303 East Indiana Ave., Pontiac, IL 815-842-3089 or a charity of the donors choice. Sue was the caregiver for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren for over four decades. Special Friends: Mrs. Richard (Jean) Durham, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Snider, and Ms. Margaret Turner, and her beloved cat Shadow was her constant companion.
