Harry J. Lewandowski Obituary (1939 - 2016)

Harry J. Lewandowski, 77, of Pontiac, passed away Friday, May 27, 2016 at his home. A graveside service will be held Friday, June 10, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Southside Cemetery in Pontiac with Pastor Gretchen Stinebaugh officiating. Duffy-Baier-Snedecor Funeral Home, Pontiac, is in charge of arrangements. Harry was born April 19, 1939 in Chicago, IL to John and Nettie (Powers) Lewandowski. He is survived by two brothers, Tom Lewandowski of Pontiac, IL and Daniel "Butch" (Mary) Lewandowski of Dwight, IL; one sister, Delores Burton of Pontiac, IL; niece and special friend Paula Lewandowski of Pontiac, IL; and many other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Alex, John and Terry Lewandowski; one sister, Shirley Whiteside; one brother-in-law, Lester Burton; three sisters-in-law, Madge, LaDonna, and Minda Lewandowski; and two nephews, Jim Lewandowski and Doug Burton. Harry was an Iron worker for Local 380 for many years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, race cars, and spending time in his garage. The greatest part of living is having the opportunity to love. Some we have for a fleeting moment and others sprinkle our lives with memories of the years gone by. Harry Lewandowski will be a constant character in some of our fondest memories. With his passing, he leaves behind family & friends who sometimes scowled at his brashness, laughed at his wickedness, and raised an eyebrow for his colorful tales that would leave you wondering how much was fictitious and how much was true?!?! Harry staved off death many times in his life, yet today even seems too soon for those of us who loved him. We will always admire Harry for being exactly who he was - one of life's colorful characters, living & loving on his own terms. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
