Joan S. Hughes Obituary (1935 - 2021)

Joan S. Hughes, 86, of Pontiac, passed away Wednesday, September 15, 2021, at 2:45 a.m. at OSF St. James John W. Albrecht Medical Center in Pontiac. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held Wednesday, September 22, 2021, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Duffy-Baier-Snedecor Funeral Home in Pontiac. Duffy-Baier-Snedecor Funeral Home, Pontiac, is in charge of arrangements. Joan was born May 1, 1935 in Chicago, IL to Walker J. and Mary J. (Greco) Scott. She married Oscar Luna on May 11, 1957. He passed away in 1995. She later married Matthew Hughes in 1982. He passed away in 2003. She is survived by her children, Mario (Bette) Luna of Normal, IL, Melissa (Jesse) Justus of Pontiac, IL, and David (Sue) Hughes of Georgia; grandchildren, Stephanie Morrison of North Carolina, Carleigh Hughes of Georgia, and Chase Hughes of Georgia; nieces, Amber Sitko of Michigan and Debra Adams of Michigan; and her cat, Frankie. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, and sister, Muriel Jean Adams. Joan graduated in 1953 from Our Lady of Sorrow in Providence, IL. She retired from Interlake Steel after 29 years in the Accounting Department and worked for the Pontiac Elk's Club for 10 years. Joan was catholic by faith and was a member of both the Pontiac VFW and the Pontiac Elk's Club. She loved animals and going to bingo. She had a great sense of humor and style. She loved life.
