Leatrice L. Mitchell Obituary (1923 - 2022)

Leatrice "Lea" L. (Weber) Mitchell, 98, of Graymont and recently Good Samaritan Pontiac, passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at 3:08 a.m. in Pontiac. Duffy-Baier-Snedecor Funeral Home, Pontiac, is in charge of arrangements. Leatrice was born September 3, 1923, at Cornell, IL, daughter to Lawrence and Dora (Johnson) Weber. She married Glenn E. Mitchell on March 23, 1946, and they had one daughter, Deatra. Leatrice was preceeded in death by her parents, husband, and daughter. Surviving are her son-in-law, Charles Hicks of Graymont, IL; two grandchildren, Todd (Tammy) Hicks and Teri (Ray) Thorsen; and great-grandchilden, Parker Hicks, Carson Hicks, Payton Hicks and Lane Thorsen. Leatrice completed elementary school at Grant School, a one-room school house in rural Graymont. She would often ride her pony to school. For the fact she was the only 3rd grader, she completed 3rd and 4th grades simultanesously. She then graduated high school at the age of 16 years. She was a graduate of Pontiac Township High School and Gallagher School of Business in Kankakee. She had been employed at the Public Service Company in Joliet, Ortman, Johnson & Taylor in Pontiac and retired in 1989 from the Graymont Cooperative Association, after 33 1/2 years. She continued to oversee the farming of the family farm. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Graymont and their Women's Ministries, and also, the Graymont Neighborhood Club. Burial will be at Rooks Creek Township Cemetery alongside her parents, husband, and daughter. A private family service will be held at the cemetery.
