Lucille I. Bateman Obituary (1918 - 2009)

FLANAGAN - Lucille I. Bateman, 90, Flanagan, died at 3:45 a.m. Thursday (Oct. 29, 2009) at Good Samaritan Home, Flanagan. Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Duffy Funeral Home, Pontiac, with the Rev. Patrick Embley officiating. Burial will be in Rooks Creek Cemetery, rural Pontiac. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Good Samaritan Home, OSF Hospice or Graymont Baptist Church. Online condolences may be made at duffyfuneralhome.com. She was born Nov. 5, 1918, in Pontiac, to Henry and Laura Albertson Carstens. She married Dale Bateman on Feb. 6, 1939. He died April 4, 1990. Surviving are daughters, Karen Vietti, Pontiac; Judy Blair, Cornell; and Betty Bachman, Westminster, Colo.; sister, Alta Vitzthum, Graymont; sister-in-law, Dorothea Mott, Pontiac; six grandchildren, Lynn (Tom) Burkitt, Steve Gschwendtner, Sondra (Scott) Hays, Todd (Sue) Bachman, Jeffrey Vietti and Joel (Claudine) Vietti; and great-grandchildren, Ryan Burkitt, Adam Burkitt, Emily Burkitt, Kevin Gschwendtner, Craig Gschwendtner, Joseph Vietti and Cecilia Vietti. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and two sisters. She was an accomplished seamstress, and enjoyed needlework and crocheting. She helped her husband with the family farm for 35 years. She was a member of Graymont Baptist Church in Graymont. She attended grade school near Graymont and Pontiac High School.
