Maurice "Moe" J. Jones Obituary (1946 - 2021)

Maurice "Moe" J. Jones, 74, of Pontiac, died in his home Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at 5:31 p.m. He was born August 24, 1946, in Pontiac, IL to Harold Jones and Lillian "Bertie" (Barnard) Jones - Turk. Duff-Baier-Snedecor Funeral Home, Pontiac, is in charge of arrangements. Moe graduated from Pontiac High School in 1965 and afterward served his country in the Vietnam War. After the war, in 1970, he married the love of his life, Karen (Thompson) Cochran and they had their daughter, Kimberly "Kim" Jones of LaGrange Park in 1975. Moe was known for his finish carpentry skills and ran his own business from his prized red pickup truck displaying "You Should See What I Can Saw" for many years. He ended his career at Graymont Co-Op Association after many years of running their lumber yard. Moe loved to garden, fish, camp, and boat at Lake Shelbyville, and spend time with his grandchildren, Abigail "Abby" Jones and Aidan "A.J." Jones. Outside of carpentry, he was known for his ability to cut a rug and to raise animals no one else could, like runt dogs, 3-legged cats, roosters, rabbits, and even raccoons. Surviving in addition to his daughter and grandchildren are his brothers, Jerry (Peg) Jones of Pontiac, Doug (Michele) Jones, and many beloved nieces and nephews and other extended family. Moe was predeceased by his parents. Moe's home was known for family outings, social events, Euchre games, kids hanging out, and most of all the love and silliness and his infectious Jones laugh. He was known for the best "Dilly Beans", sauerkraut, and his famous fish fries. You could give the man anything you find, and he could smoke it or fry it into a delicacy. A celebration of life will be held at a future date.
