Michael J. Mick Fordyce Obituary (1945 - 2019)

Michael "Mick" J. Fordyce, 73, of Pontiac, passed away on Friday, March 29, 2019 at Evenglow Lodge in Pontiac. His funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Pontiac with Reverend Tom Goodell officiating. Burial will be at Southside Cemetery in Pontiac. The family will host a Celebration of Life to honor Mick at 12:30 p.m. the Pontiac Elks Lodge. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 3, 2019 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. at the First United Methodist Church in Pontiac. Duffy-Baier-Snedecor Funeral Home, Pontiac, is in charge of arrangements. Mick was born April 13, 1945 in Kankakee, IL to Norman and Hazel (Chase) Fordyce. He graduated from Gilman High School in 1963. He married Sue Myers on July 4, 2001. She survives in Pontiac. Also surviving are his sons, Steve (Teri) Fordyce of Tucson, AZ, Andrew (Gilly) Fordyce of Millbrook, IL, and Eric (Kelly) Fordyce of Ladera Ranch, CA; step-daughters, Courtney (Mark) McCord of Houston, TX and Hillary (Tim) Wasson of Germantown Hills, IL; grandchildren, Alex Fordyce, Sydney Fordyce, Aaron Fordyce, Nathan Fordyce, Cody Fordyce, Kadie Fordyce, Chase Fordyce, Juliette Fordyce, Maxwell McCord, Daisy Wasson, Sally Wasson; great-grandsons, Brody Fordyce and Logan Fordyce; brother, Joe (Marge) Fordyce of Watseka, IL; and special mother-in-law, Joan Bolz. Mick began his insurance career with Rockford Mutual as a field representative before becoming the Manager of Pontiac Mutual in 1976. During his 42-year career with Pontiac Mutual, he served on the Board of Directors of Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company in Grinnell, IA, for 29 years. Mick had the privilege of being Chairman of the Board for 20 years, the longest-serving board chairman in Grinnell Mutuals history. Micks dream of living on a golf course was realized in May 1996 when he moved to a house on the 3rd green. He played golf many years in the Tuesday Mens League at the Elks. Mick spent hours & hours making the yard beautiful with many flower gardens and hosta beds. He loved sitting in the gazebo watching the golfers and admiring all the landscaping. He enjoyed the hunt of finding "treasures" at antique shows and auctions, and would rarely miss local garage sales. He and Sue loved hosting great 4th of July parties and they enjoyed their blended family. Most of all, Mick enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren giving them rides on the golf cart, playing checkers, or just watching them have fun. Mick will be remembered as a kind man of integrity and honor, who rose above difficult circumstances, and carried a quiet faith. He was certainly loved greatly by his family and will be dearly missed as he has gone to be with the Lord. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pontiac Elks Scholarship Fund or the Livingston County Humane Society.
