Nelson E. Ruther Obituary (1944 - 2018)

Nelson E. Ruther, 74, of Chenoa, passed away Sunday, July 22, 2018 at 4:02 p.m. at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held Saturday, August 4, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Duffy-Baier-Snedecor Funeral Home in Pontiac. Cremation rites will be accorded. Duffy-Baier-Snedecor Funeral Home, Pontiac, is in charge of arrangements. Nelson was born June 17, 1944 in Fairbury, IL to Eugene and Clara (Nagel) Ruther. He married Jean Stahler on September 4, 1971. She survives in Chenoa, IL. Also surviving are his son, Tony (Kim) Ruther of Pontiac, IL; brother, Roger (Carol) Ruther of Fairbury, IL; sisters, Candy (Rick) Jones of Pontiac, IL and Juanita Childers of Bartow, FL; and granddaughter, Kelly Ruther of Bloomington, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Barbara Childers, and nephew Jeff Hay. Nelson was a graduate of Fairbury-Cropsey High School, Class of 1962. He was a Correctional Officer at Pontiac Correctional Center for over 30 years and enjoyed spending time with his friends at the Pontiac VFW.
