Patricia "Pat" Mishur Obituary (1939 - 2020)

Patricia "Pat" Mishur, 80, of Pontiac, passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2020, at 1:14 p.m. at OSF St. James John W. Albrecht Medical Center in Pontiac. Duffy-Baier-Snedecor Funeral Home, Pontiac, is in charge of arrangements. Pat was born in Chicago, IL on November 29, 1939 to Frank and Mary (Maloney) Pochron. She attended local suburban grade and high schools and also Loyola University in Chicago where she received the B.A. in Philosophy in 1964. Pat was awarded a scholarship to graduate school at Loyola, receiving the M.A. in Philosophy in the following year. Pat met her husband, Dave, in graduate school and they were married on Thanksgiving Day in 1965. Dave survives in Pontiac, IL. A son, Jeff, was born in 1966, and he and his wife, Michelle, live today in Riverside, IL. Pat taught at her high school alma mater, Nazareth Academy, in La Grange, IL after graduation. She later worked in administrative positions at several Chicago area companies, retiring from Vulcan Materials Company in 2002. In 1990, Pat and Dave purchased a farmhouse near Emington, IL as a "weekend retreat" and after several subsequent moves, finally settled in Pontiac. After retiring from Vulcan, Pat worked part-time at the Pontiac Public Library, where she, an avid reader, enjoyed being surrounded by books while helping the patrons. She retired from the library in 2019. Her many interests included the study of the stars and constellations, bird watching, gardening, and enjoying stunning country sunsets. Pat was a member of St. Mary's Parish, where she was active in the choir and an officer of the Women's Guild. In recent years, Pat developed in interest in jazz, which provided a fine musical background for her omnipresent crossword puzzles. Pat loved her faith and her Lord and maintained a consistent prayer schedule. No memorials are planned at this time and the family wishes that mourners and friends offer prayers for her and for the advancement of the beautification of Servant of God, Fulton J. Sheen. Despite various illnesses, Pat will be remembered for her ready smile and a consistent cheerfulness. She is survived by her sister, Sharron Muldoon of Post falls, ID. She is preceded in death by sisters-in-law, Dorothy Cowell and Ellen Lolakos and brothers-in-law, Gerald and Robert Mishur, who now, with her and Dave's parents, welcome her into the heavenly kingdom. She is at peace at last and blesses us with her winning smile. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
