Ray L. Seng Obituary (1926 - 2011)

Ray Lee Seng, 84, of rural Pontiac passed away at OSF St. Joseph `Medical Center in Bloomington, Illinois, September 29, 2011 surrounded by his family. A funeral service will be held to celebrate the life of Ray Seng on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at 10:00 am at Duffy-Baier-Snedecor Funeral Home, Pontiac, IL with Robert Davis officiating. The visitation will be held on Monday, October 3, 2011 from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Ray will be laid to rest in Cornell Cemetery with his beloved pet, Muffy. Mr. Seng was born November 1, 1926, the third of four children, to Pearly and Stella (Bond) Seng of Roberts, Illinois. He spent his childhood years in Roberts helping his father on the farm until 1954 when he moved to Peotone, IL to begin farming on his own. He married Lucille Stanovich on October12, 1952 in Valparaiso, Indiana. Ray and Lucy moved to Pontiac, Illinois in 1973 where he continued farming until retiring in 1991. Ray loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing for Northern Pike and Walleye in Minnesota with his daughter, boating on Kentucky Lake, crossing the US and Mexico in his RV, and gardening. He built two motorhomes and led caravans through Mexico for 13 years until settling into his winter home in Mesa, Arizona. Flying was another of Ray's passions. He owned a Cessna Skyhawk and was a member of the Illinois Flying Farmers, Streator R/C Flyers, and a flying club in Arizona. Ray loved to square dance and belonged to many clubs in Kankakee and the surrounding area. He was also a member of the Pontiac Moose. Ray could fix anything and loved restoring John Deere tractors, both full-size and models. He could always be found tinkering in his garage or lending a helping hand on a home improvement project. There wasn't anything Ray couldn't do; if Ray couldn't fix it, it wasn't worth keeping. Ray also enjoyed working with stained glass, and a good day for Ray ended playing cards or BINGO with friends. The family requests memorials be made to the American Red Cross of Heartland, and would also like to encourage everyone that is able to please be a blood donor. Ray will be forever remembered by his loving wife of 59 years, Lucille; children, Ken (Sharon) Seng of Bloomington, Cyndy (Jim) Fogarty of Rockton, and Kathi (Michael) Barney of Isle, Minnesota; four grandchildren, David Seng of Bloomington, Christy (Josh) Ritch of Oceanside, California, Jason (Teresa) Fogarty of Rockton, and Shawn Fogarty of Machesney Park; three great-grandchildren, and countless other friends and family who were blessed to know him.
