Roland G. "Bonz" Hamand Obituary (1938 - 2021)

Roland G. "Bonz" Hamand, 82, of Pontiac, passed away Monday, July 12, 2021, at 4:06 a.m. at Accolade Healthcare of Pontiac. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 16, 2021, at 6:00 p.m. at Duffy-Baier-Snedecor Funeral Home, Pontiac, with Pastor Josh Anderson officiating. Interment will be at Southside Cemetery, Pontiac, IL at a later date. Visitation will be Friday, July 16, 2021, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Duffy-Baier-Snedecor Funeral Home, Pontiac. Duffy-Baier-Snedecor Funeral Home, Pontiac, is in charge of arrangements. Bonz was born November 9, 1938, in Champaign, IL to James N. and (Bernice Palmer) Hamand. He married Betty Jean (Hall) Hamand on June 1, 1974, in Pontiac, IL. She passed on December 14, 2010. He is survived by his children, Tim (Rose) Shilson of Indianapolis, IN, Tom (LaVonne) Shilson of Weston, IL, Tammy (Steven) Staley of Pontiac, IL, Ronald (Andrea) Hamand of Woodstock, IL, Tracie (Jeff) Diehl of Monroe, WI, Eric Hamand of Pontiac, IL, and Jason Hamand of Black Earth, WI; 16 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and brother, Stanley (Millie) Hamand of LaGrange, KY. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Betty. Bonz was a graduate of Pontiac Township High School. He served in the United States Army from 1957-1960 in the First Armored Division. He worked for the Pontiac Chair Factory for over 20 years. He then established G&G Construction in Pontiac until 1991, when he purchased Chump's & Bonz' Bar and Grill in Pontiac, working until his retirement. Bonz was an avid Harley-Davidson rider. He was a huge fan of Dale Earnhardt and enjoyed the many years of sponsoring pool and dart leagues at his bar. He had a heart of gold and was a great friend to many throughout the years.
