Ruby Irene Vant Obituary (1908 - 2014)

Ruby Irene Farber Vant, 106, of Emington, passed away Sunday, December 7, 2014 at 2:58 p.m. at Fairview Haven in Fairbury, IL. Her service will be held Saturday, December 13, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Duffy-Baier-Snedecor Funeral Home in Pontiac, IL. Pastor Kim Ernst will officiate. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Emington, IL. Visitation will be Friday, December 12, 2014 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Duffy-Baier-Snedecor Funeral Home in Pontiac. Ruby was born February 14, 1908 in Saunemin, IL, daughter of Louis J. and Edna (Hoke) Farber. She married Clyde H. Vant on August 30, 1930. He preceded her in death. Surviving are her son, Clyde Richard "Dick" Vant of Emington, IL; seven grandchildren, William (Deborah) Gahm, Luann (Jerry) Freese, Laurie (Mike) Baker, Clyde Richard (Holly) Vant, Margaret Ann "Peggy" (Frank) Hartig, James (Debbie) Vant, and John Gahm; 18 great-grandchildren: Jill Langer, Johnny Gahm, Jennifer Gahm, Sarah Gahm, Melissa Fitzpatrick, David Tipton, Brian Tipton, Scott Tipton, Mandy Kaisner, Erica Knauer, Danielle Batta, Katelyn Lane, Amy Gahm, Samantha Buff, Tony Santos, Cody Hartig, Timothy Vant, and Samuel Vant; 20 great-great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clyde; one daughter, Emma Jean Sporrer; two brothers, Clarence L. Farber and Louis Verle "Jack" Farber; one grandson, David E. Gahm; one great-grandson and two great-great-grandsons. Ruby graduated from Saunemin Schools and Illinois State University where she received her Teaching Degree. She was a teacher for 42 years, the last 26 years was in Saunemin. Ruby was a very active member of Emington Congregational Church in Emington, IL. She was also a member of Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, Livingston County Retired Teachers, Royal Neighbors, Dwight Senior Citizens, Thursday Evening Bridge Club, and Ladies Aid. Ruby enjoyed teaching, traveling and music. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice or Emington Fire Department.
