Sharl A. Smith Obituary (1937 - 2015)

Sharl A. Smith, 77, of Flanagan, passed away Monday, June 1, 2015 at 7:10 p.m. at her home surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, June 4, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. at First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Pontiac, IL. Friends and family may call one hour prior to the service at the church. Pastor Dana Jumper will officiate. Cremation rites have been accorded. Duffy-Baier-Snedecor Funeral Home, Pontiac, is in charge of arrangements. Sharl was born December 5, 1937 in Fairbury, IL, daughter of Gene and Evelyn (Huxtable) Dawson. She is survived by two daughters, Lori (Rod) Bertsche of Bloomington, IL and Shelby (Chad) Bivens of Fairbury, IL; two brothers, John (Jean) Dawson of Flanagan, IL and Niel Dawson (Ken Prince) of Atlanta, GA; two sisters, Bonnie (Tom) Meiss of Anaheim, CA and Kay Bassett of Fort Walton Beach, FL; five grandchildren, one great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. Sharl began working in her parents' grocery store, "Dawson's Market", early in life. She later worked for Caterpillar and Good Samaritan Home. Sharl was a member of Flanagan Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Flanagan, IL. One of Sharl's greatest joys was working in her beautiful backyard and flower garden.
