Sharon M. Maier Obituary (1944 - 2016)

Sharon M. Maier, 71, of Pontiac, passed away Friday, February 5, 2016 at 5:58 p.m. at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington, IL. Her service will be held Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. at Duffy-Baier-Snedecor Funeral Home in Pontiac with Pastor Jeff Williams officiating. Burial will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL at a later date. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 10, 2016 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Pontiac. Duffy-Baier-Snedecor Funeral Home, Pontiac, is in charge of arrangements. Sharon was born November 8, 1944 in Minneapolis, MN to Herman F. and Irene M. (Vodak) Compton. She married Richard R. Maier on February 17, 1968 in Downers Grove, IL. He survives in Pontiac. Also surviving are one son, David K. (Laura) Maier of Aurora, IL; one daughter, Beth I. (Ken) Albrecht of Pontiac, IL; two brothers, Donald (Cindy) Compton of Loveland, CO and David (Glenda) Compton of Mattoon, IL; six grandchildren, Matthew, Sarah and Emily Albrecht of Pontiac and Trevor, Megan and Chase Maier of Aurora, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Nancy Elliott. Sharon attended St. Joseph Elementary School and Downers Grove North High School. She received her BS Degree from Illinois State University and was the first women to graduate ISU with a Business Degree. Sharon had worked for UPS for many years and later held various part-time jobs so she was able to be home with her family. She was a longtime volunteer for S.H.I.P. (Senior Health Insurance Program) and delivered Meals on Wheels in the Downers Grove area and volunteered for the Caring Pregnancy Center in Pontiac.
