Steve Boots Riccolo Obituary (1927 - 2013)

Steve S. "Boots" Riccolo, 85, of Dwight, passed away on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at 11:20 p.m. at his home. A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 21, 2013 at 10:00 am at the Dwight High School. Pastor Dan Woodward and Pastor Frederick Hill will officiate. Burial will be at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Dwight, IL with full military honors. Friends may call on Sunday, January 20, 2013 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the Dwight Fire Department. Family suggests memorials be made to the Dwight Fire Fighters Association, Oak Lawn Cemetery in Dwight, IL or Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Dwight, IL. Boots was born on March 12, 1927 in Dwight, IL, son of Phillip and Josephine (Zappa) Riccolo. He married Dorothy L. Nielsen on April 10, 1949 in Campus, IL. She survives in Dwight, IL. Also surviving are one daughter, Cynthia Riccolo Pfeiffer and her husband Mark Pfeiffer of Oak Park, IL; one sister, Julia Corriell of Enumclaw, WA and one grandchild, Josephine Clara Pfeiffer. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Steve Riccolo. Boots was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Dwight, IL. He was a Master Plumber and owner operator of Riccolo Plumbing in Dwight, IL for over 60 years. He served in the U.S. Merchant Marines during WWII. Boots joined the Dwight Fire Dept. in 1951. He was longtime President of the Dwight Volunteer Firefighters and had served as Chief of the Dwight Fire Protection District. He attended Dwight High School, received an Associate's Degree in real estate from Joliet Junior College and was always proud to state that he received his Doctorate from the University of Hard Knocks. Boots will be greatly missed by his family and friends and the community that he served throughout his entire lifetime.
