Duffy-Baier-Snedecor Funeral Home

Serving Pontiac, Odell, and surrounding area

The origins of Duffy Funeral Home can be traced back to the Ira Irwin Funeral Home. This funeral home was located on the south side of the square in historic downtown Pontiac. The Irwin Funeral Home was the oldest funeral firm in Pontiac and also Pontiac's oldest business operated under original ownership on the date of the funeral homes sale to Mr. Behrendt in 1952.

In 1916, Irwin was the first to introduce an auto hearse and an auto ambulance in Livingston County. Both were innovations that did not readily receive public acceptance and he had to keep a horse-drawn hearse-ambulance until 1926.

The funeral home was relocated to 202 E. Howard St., Pontiac, IL, and later to 903 W. Custer Ave., Pontiac, IL, where it currently operates.

On November 4, 1952, Mr. Irwin sold the business to Edmund Behrendt, who owned and operated the funeral home and ambulance service until Jerry and Lori Duffy purchased the business in 1980. The funeral home and ambulance service was purchased in August of 2010 by Richard L. Baier and M. Todd Snedecor from the Duffy family.

In addition to the funeral home, Duffy Ambulance Service is also operated internally, providing emergency medical services for the citizens of Pontiac and mutual aid to many smaller communities in the surrounding area.

Duffy Ambulance Service's emergency medical technicians operate at the ALS level with Paramedic, EMT-I and EMT-B classifications with a commitment and goal of providing outstanding emergency services to the Pontiac community and are proud to have had this responsibility over the many years.
